I enjoy teaching and love to see when a student grasps a new concept. It is amazing the joy some students feel when they master a new task and can actually help other students. When I see this joy in students, it is very uplifting to other students and to me. When possible, I go around to each student and see how they are doing. If a student is struggling, I arrange time for them to be tutored. I also try to make the subject as easy for the students as possible to learn, while still requiring them to master the basic concepts presented in the course. Two of my interests outside of class are: Trains and health. I enjoy train museums and model railways. We have visited train museums in a few cities, especially Golden, CO. My wife and I also do health coaching. Since starting, I have dropped about 40 pounds and kept it off. For the fun of it, I blog on health issues at www.cookhealthalliance.com.

I was lucky enough to learn about IBMC through a colleague who happened to teach here. I began as an adjunct instructor and eventually was hired on as a full-time faculty member. I have been an instructor at all of our IBMC campuses, and I feel that IBMC is a good fit for me! I hope that students benefit from my positive energy in the classroom and the encouragement I provide them. Outside of my classroom: My favorite pastimes are gardening, cooking and brewing.

This is the second time that I have worked for IBMC. Originally I worked for IBMC when they first opened the Cheyenne Campus. I had the privilege of assisting in setting up the original campus in there. After about 4 years but came back to the campus and it was like coming home. My long term goal was to be a teacher. As a RN, you are always teaching patients and while that is very satisfying you do not get to see that ""Ah-hah" moment when everything comes together. I wanted and still want to see that moment when everything comes together for the student. That is more rewarding than words can describe. In my spare time: I really enjoy reading, nothing is better than a good book. I am also picking up sewing again because I have always found it so relaxing.

I absolutely love to teach. I have been teaching my clients for the last 13 years, and I found the opportunity to teach formally very fulfilling. I find that if I stay positive and excited, my students reflect my attitude. I love to garden and see things grow. I also enjoy creating stained glass gifts. I am currently starting a foundation to write a book!

To help my students move forward and grow their passion, I would provide motivation daily by encouraging them to remember their goals and push them to work harder. I always thought that I would be an effective teacher. The thought of using my talents to help people to obtain better careers was more appealing than using those talents just to help wealthy people become wealthier. I try and get the students to see the end game - to motivate them to want to learn the material. If I can make the material relevant, I have found that the students become very engaged and not just a passive audience. As much as possible, I try and get the students to participate, speak up, ask questions, and to constantly demonstrate what they have learned. Outside of the classroom: My wife and I enjoy watching our son's baseball games and our daughter's basketball games. Also, I enjoy cooking, relaxing on our deck, and traveling.

I have had extensive experience with business and computers while serving 20 years as a member of the Air Force. Although I enjoyed working with computers, I wanted the opportunity to help individuals bring about a wonderful change to their life and family. I felt that IBMC provided me the best opportunity to use my passion, teaching, and my desire to make a difference in this world and apply it in a setting that is personal and caring. I believe that to motivate my students I must first get to know them as they attend my classes. It is crucial to help each of them understand that they are not just a number, but a complex and interesting individual who has made the most important, difficult and exciting decision of their life, one that will bring about a wonderful change to them and their families. You may not know: That I love just about anything outdoors. I have climbed 5 Fourteeners, have been part of a team of 10 who ran the 200 mile Wild West Relay, ran the 6.6 mile Bolder Boulder in 54 minutes and the Garden of the Gods and have done a triathlon. I also love fishing, camping and hiking which is one of the reasons we moved here to beautiful Colorado. Finally, one of the most important things that I believe directs everything I do is my faith; I am heavily involved in teaching in the children's ministry in my church. I have a deep desire to impact the future generation.
