What Does a Pharmacy Technician Do?

As a pharmacy technician student at the Institute of Business & Medical Careers, you will have the opportunity to learn the skills needed to assist a licensed pharmacist in preparing medications for patient needs and serve as a liaison between a doctor’s office and the customer.
Pharmacy technician students can earn a degree in as little as 19 months at IBMC. Often referred to as a pharmacy clinician, courses prepare students for the Pharmacy Technician Board Exam and provide in-depth training measuring and compounding medication. They also teach pharmaceutical terminology, medical terms and patient care.
In addition, students learn how to read prescriptions accurately, perform administrative charges and reimbursements to insurance companies or customers, as well as gain a full understanding of the ethics surrounding the pharmacy technician occupation.
Adult learners spend time in both pharmacy types of hands-on classrooms and intimate lecture halls and gain valuable knowledge from instructors who are seasoned in the pharmacy and medical professions.
During the final five-weeks of the program, students will complete an externship, sometimes referred to as a clinical rotation, and will graduate the program as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT).
Qualified for employment in pharmacies medical offices, hospitals, physician clinics, labs, pharmaceutical companies, drug manufacturing corporations and home healthcare facilities, a pharmacy technician career affords graduates a wide variety of employment prospects.
The pharmacy classes offered at IBMC’s college campuses in Fort Collins, CO; Greeley, CO; Longmont, CO and Cheyenne, WY campuses allow students to take courses when it’s convenient for their schedule: morning, afternoon or evening. Sessions run Monday through Thursday during the week, providing flexibility and the chance for students to continue working or raising a family, while obtaining an education.
