How to Get Ready for College
Starting college can be both exciting and a bit scary. Following are some tips for young Fort Collins residents who are joining our college for their first year of studies.
Financial Pointers
If you need financial aid, we encourage you to fill out a FAFSA form well in advance, as it may take up to a month for the application to be processed.
IBMC also offers other financial aid options for students who qualify. If you need more tuition money than what the FAFSA can provide, feel free to speak to one of our Financial Aid staff members about other options that may exist. We will be happy to provide you with additional resources. Once again, it is best to do this before you start your studies to ensure you have the funds needed to pay for tuition, books and other expenses.
Course Preparation Tips
Once you have chosen your major, you will want to familiarize yourself with your class schedule. Find out where each class is held and what time each class starts. If you are working part-time to support your studies, compare your class schedule with your work schedule to ensure that there are no scheduling conflicts. It is also a good idea to allow yourself plenty of time to get from work to school and/or from one class to the next.
By taking the time to prepare for your first year in college, well in advance, you will not only be setting yourself up for success but also eliminating a great deal of the stress that comes with starting college for the first time.
