What is the Peer Mentoring Program?
The Peer Mentoring program at IBMC College is dedicated to engaging and empowering new students so they can be successful throughout their college experience. The program is designed to give new students a head start on building positive, meaningful relationships with their peers and establishing a connection to the IBMC campus.
Will I Be Paired with a Peer Mentor?
As a new student, you may request a Peer Mentor from the Student Success Coach. There will also be events held on your campus to give you an opportunity to have some face-to-face time with your Peer Mentor. New students are notified about events through student email, text messages and the Weekly Insights. Participation is optional, but strongly recommended for new students.
Why Should I Participate in This Program?
Statistics show that students who have solid peer relationships in college are more successful. Both the mentor and the new student gain skills and grow. Some of the benefits new students have shared from participating in the Peer Mentoring program include:
- A sense of belonging in a new environment
- A better understanding of the college experience
- Early networking experience — a critical component of today’s job market
- Academic support resulting in higher grades
- Better knowledge of resources available to students
- Increased self-esteem and confidence
What Qualifications Will My Peer Mentor Have?
Peer Mentors are experienced IBMC College students and must apply through the Student Services department. They are selected based on a wide variety of criteria from GPA, attendance, communication skills and campus involvement.
